Great Mother's day weekend, just coming back from a great Comox lake trip with my mom & dad. Would that experience coupled with photos be considered a trip or related adventure? whatever, we enjoyed ourselves.
What I highlited in Shadow Chaser's reply is relevant, there is an antagonist that keeps reminding me to "think hiking hiking hiking" and finds opportunities to chastice wherever possible enven in my TRs. Yet many of us do post TRs and this guy does not, and his post-counter keeps climbing towards 7000.
I am happy to see that a request made of someone elses rude remarks were deleted. By defintion a forum is at its best when moderation is fair & impartial and consensus or feedback is fair. I don't know of many other forums let alone those mentioned as being really wild and abusive, but then those wouldn't interest me either. As I mentioned to our newest moderator, the season has approached where I will be out&about doing other things and my visits here will be far less. Just dropping in here for a look. Bye all. Hope that picture uploader gets going again. |

A miracle, he posted a TR!! Hallelu-a! A new leaf for all. By-gones be by-gones and water under-the-bridges? Thanks for the support those that try to understand me, & I'll try to be more clear in my posts too.

This.
I get recognized from my TR's here also on the trails but by and large it's by people who don't want to post or join here, or inactive members who just lurk now. The reasons are usually "too much bickering and disagreement". A lot of the inactive members, or seldom-posters I've met are so due to 1 or 2 members that just make the forum something they don't want to be associated with.
I think this forum is different to most on the internet in that its members aren't mainly anonymous. We post trips and pictures of ourselves and meet each other in person. It's one thing to be associated with a group when you're an anonymous pseudonym, it's another matter entirely when who you are in real life is associated with it.

| ^ I totally agree. Those forums that people never meet, are often much wilder, and more abnoxious at times. There are lots of lurkers that visit CT as well, I've met several in the bush that just read CT and don't have usernames, or at least have usernames but don't post. Several just don't feel the need to post, and use the site for info gathering only. |

| There will always be more lurkers than posters. It's the nature of the internet. It takes a lot of time and effort to make a good TR and bad TRs are an even bigger waste of time because nobody reads them. I rarely post TRs as I don't take pictures and the trips are pretty uneventful for the most part. |

It's also considered good etiquette to lurk a forum for a little bit before posting and get a feel for the standards of the place rather than finding a new forum and posting right away with something that won't be well-received.
Or sometimes people enjoy reading but don't have much to contribute. I lurked the RMBooks forum for years before I posted, and only ever posted maybe 5 times in the time it existed. I got a lot of value from reading it without having anything to say myself. |

If you want to see a prime example of where moderation is needed, check out what is going on in this thread:
http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=44252
tzoflier has repeatedly trolled this site without disclosing his motivations or affiliations. Yet he has no qualms about using internet searches to unmask those with whom his opinions differ. This violates the spirit of both Rule 13 and Guideline 9:
Rule 13. You must respect the privacy of other members and individuals. Do not post personal information (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, passwords, personal identification numbers, or any other information considered private) without the express permission of the individual.
Guideline 9. Do not post offline personal contact information (ie. your home address, phone numbers etc.) and do not ask for personal information from others. Use of full names (your first and last name) is allowed but discouraged. This is to protect your security and identity.
While I would personally enjoy seeing tzoflier actually respond to questions asked of him, and reveal his motivation and affiliations, I respect his right to hold back. |
