ya.. people aren't that hard to predict, so called 'acts of god' are, but not people. So who has 5th generation fighter jets? NATO and Russia. China is working on a 4.5 generation combat fighter and may have a small fleet of them in about another ten years but absolutely none of these countries are a military threat to Canada nor will they ever be in the foreseeable future.

Israel will have some F35s as will many other US allies as America replaces her fleets with them.
Being complacent about who our future opponents might be and what equipment they might use is foolish. One only has to study history to see what happens to weak countries. Poland, Tibet, and Kuwait in recent times.
Clearly, one can see in Libya that the USA has indicated that they are tired of shouldering the burden of always being the main participant in allied military actions. NATO has shown that they aren't very effective without a strong American presence. It's time that Canada and the other NATO countries do their share....we need the gear to do it and it is expensive but not as expensive as doing nothing. |

its ok Monster. Some people see that the world is still an uncivilized place and that it is wise to be taking precautions to protects ourselves in it and others still dont get it. if you're a serious hiker you should understand this. "its better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it", imho. it's like going into the backcountry with thought a good knife or two, some spare clothing, water and food, a first aid kit, raingear, etc... sure you can go in with less, but if something bad happens... you're in trouble.
cheers... |

...and some people only pretend to have the first clue of what they are talking about.
As for 30 billion on fighter jets, Canada already have a perfectly good fleet of F18s and plenty of time evaluate their eventual replacement through the NORMAL competitive bid process. |

Tax all church investments, simple interest, businesses owned by churches, Only tax exempt status should be the church itself. All parsonages, retreats, camps, should be taxed. All churches should pay taxes on all actual "profit" they have above and beyond their charitable output and costs. It's simple. If a church, takes in 40 billion and puts out 30 billion in charitable works, costs, salaries, they should pay tax on the net of 10 billion. And we shouldn't need to audit them, right? Because they are honest folks, right? Just how rich and how much riches should a church or religious organization have in its savings and hording accounts? I think we'll never know how exactly rich they are. Oops, I have to die soon. I think I will give it all to some church, rip off my rotten children, and know the govt will never ever get a dime. Ever hear of a church or religious organization donating to AIDS ? maybe....
TAX the churches on their riches. They are like the Royals in England getting ready to spend hundred million on some stupid wedding for elitists.
Maybe next time I tithe, I will give 1 tenth of my tithe to the govt. My wife works for the county and people all the time send checks to the tax commission as a charity to help build roads and such. We sent mock tax bills to churches to see if any one of them would pay even a portion of their levy out of conscience. NOT one paid.. Imagine that.... Aren't we all one people?
