I am sure just spending one or two nights at 4000M's will be enough unless you are going peak bagging right away.

BTW What's on the menu in Bolivia?

I also have some Diamox to help out...and will most likely spend 3 days acclimatizing. As for the Bolivia menu...not planning any mountaineering...but will most likely do a bunch of hikes in the Cordillera Real, highest point may be 5000m...but we'll see how we adjust first... Oh, and a bike ride from 4700m down to 1100m.

It's my first time so high...so should be a good test to see if my body can handle doing bigger mountains like the one you just did.

LMAO!! That's hillarious. Burnsy was just mentioning something along those lines when we exchanged CD's of our pic's earlier today.

Definetly one of the best TR's I've ever read. You might want to make a story out of it and send it to Longshadow, he may want to post it in the story section.

Once again, congratulations on a fine achievement. A friend of mine did Rainier last September, and was rightly very proud of himself for it.

Great story and pictures, a riveting read. Is Red Bull as good as advertised? What's the next big trip?

Great trip report & pics guys.

BTW Mt Adams (the large summit in the distance) can be done as a hike for anyone without technical gear or knowledge of glacier travel. This view is of the north face. The south face is much genteler and crosses only snow fileds. Mt Adams is 3700M and second in height only to Mt Rainier at 4400M in Washighingto state. I did this as a long 17hr solo day trip but there is a camping area about half way up so it's a great way to get real high with minimal objective danger.

Right on with that one, Mt Adams is a great trip, except you forgot the best part. The butt glissade on Mt Adams is legendary and a real hoot. If you time it right it's like a really long bobsled run. 17hr day hike - yikes - that's brutal.

So what's next guys? Looking forward to more of your reports.

Fantastic report and great shots guys, I'm very jealous, what do you need in the way of gear and is there any red tape to consider??

Burnsy,

Actually we were originally heading for Libery Ridge but the wardens forced us to turn around and hitchhike around to Paradise. We met five climbers coming down from four days on the Kautz ... they looked hammered even though the route looked moderate. I think the standard time for the Kautz is two days, but they took about 4 so either they where beginners or liked to take their time.

The route wasn't too bad, though the traverse into the chute after Camp Hazard was interesting. We only had a very generalized idea of the route so that involved some interesting route finding that involved quite a bit of trial and error.

The chute itself is pretty icy and is, if I remember correctly, at about 45-50 degrees at the max. As long as you have a good complement of ice screws it isn't a problem. I may even have some photo's lying around somewhere.

All your cold winter gear, plus overnight gear and then your glacier travel gear.(rope, harness, crampons, pulley, asenders or prusicks plus more) Make sure you know how to use it for yours or your partners life may depend on it. This route was one of the less technical so no protection or technical tools were necessary allthough we both had 2 pickets and 2 ice screws each in case an emergency situation developed. The objective danger was very real and crossing a few of the withering snow bridges had me nervous.
