Wow. That's quite a narrow view... but don't try to expand your horizons too quickly - you could get vertigo.

And to paraphrase what Scott said is that passionately held opinions that are not acted on is like farting in the wind - makes you feel good but doesn't really effect change.

Not really sure I should answer this one. It's just my opinion it's not particulary working well. Could discuss this forever. BTW, I've had a fair bit of experience with the FMCBC as a director. There was a lot of gas expended, I'll warrant that.

A motion to this effect was made at an MEC AGM a couple years ago (by the FMCBC president at the time). It passed, in principle anyway. MEC funded some strategic planning for the FMCBC (their idea to do the planning) and also included some funds, which we (FMCBC, I'm the current president, by the way) intend to use to hire someone to do more advocacy work. How "lobbyist" style the work should be is not yet decided.

The original pitch wasn't necessarily for MEC to fund the FMCBC by the way... they basically came back to us to get us to do it. Unfortunately it appears that the ongoing funding level available to us will only a small part of the funding necessary to actually hire someone on an ongoing basis.

I do believe that things would be worse without the FMCBC. Are we "100% effective?" Clearly not! Trying our best though... suggestions, $$$, or volunteers are welcome. Of course, working for the non-motorized community in some other way is good too, so if everyone is doing that, great. If everyone is just posting on CT though...

They've always been super nice to me. Even offered to give us a ride up once as were skinning up (wanted the exercise and declined). JMO

I threw that in because we got challenged by the snowcat operator about parking on the road. We left plenty of room on the side. Point #2: so we use the groomed road? Pretty soon, do they start charging a grooming fee, like Callaghan Country to Callaghan Lake?

It's like with the RV lot at Brandywine. They plow the road and pretty soon start thinking they own it and the backcountry. Not a huge threat, I allow, but taken to an extreme it could prevent access.

We also got challenged on Cougar Mountain by an agressive ATVer who was running the operation there. Didn't like us "trespassing" on her operation. Like, if I can drive my Pathfinder there, why would her clients rent her ATVs?

Small stuff but it adds up.

Is that more useful for Miller Creek North Fork than the South Fork? I saw a Sugarloaf TR on CT by SimonC. I think they took that road. If so, it got them into North Fork and north side of Rhododendron.

Yes, that's the one. Fairly quick access to Sugarloaf, a couple of small huts, some good terrain. Google Earth shot of the approach here:
