BlackAdder you've given the best tips so far, however bivouac.com is down so I can't check what the road condition is like. Any idea if the gate is open? Hope it's less than 100M hike until I see some snow..

If you're referring to Furry Creek, that gate at the bottom of the road is always left open now. It used to get open and closed by loggers and the power plant operaters going in there, but in the last few years it has been left open.

The snow level for this area is hard to predict. It often seems a little higher than other areas for some reason. But, based on my foray into the Indian River Road (Squamish) on Saturday, you won't have far to drive before hitting snow.

The only real problem you might run into is the depth of the snow. I had small snowshoes on and was really sinking in. Your pooch might have to plow a bit of a trench.

If thats the case I think i'll give Mt.Harvey a try.
In the sky pilot area descriptoin it says that it's 2km N of furry creek a little bit past the big hill. If I can't find the loins logging road for Mt. Harvey then I"ll give this gate a try.
If that still doesn't work out I wonder if the trail that u ski up to callaghan lodge allows dogs, since they dont seem to allow dogs at the lodge itself. I'm hoping it's not the same for the trails.

Mount Harvey in this video seems way too tight for my liking.

Road up to the Callaghan lodge doesn't allow dogs. This is getting frustrating.
Really seems like the only easy trails to try out require a ferry trip out to langford.

Brew Lake / Brew Hut is dog friendly and generally not steep. It's a shorter drive than going to Callaghan.

Careful not to send a newbie to an avy-risky area without training!

Sorry if I dont understand but I thought the whole point of not being steep was that there wouldn't be much chance of an avalanche?

That was my point - Brew Lake bowl area to the hut *is* on the steeper side and is CAC rated as challenging.
