I don’t snowboard, but in talking to a few people that have taken our Alpine Club's avalanche courses, using split boards, I understand that it’s not quite the same as skis.
For yo-yo skiing where you’re skinning up and boarding down, split boards are fine, but for touring, where you may stay in split mode, with skins on, for small up’s & downs, it sounds like in split mode, boards don’t downhill ski very well. |

lol...but the info on this is probably coming from a boarder? There was a neat vid online some where of some guy cranking out tele turns on his splitboard. |

Yup, there are people of exceptional talent in any field. There was a guy that took his ACMG Ski Guide exams on a split board... but, this is an exception. Most people would likely not do well, trying to tour on a split board.
As I said, I don't board and I'm just relaying information given to me by a couple of people that do use split boards.

The biggest problem I had with spitboarding was the forward lean of my boots and bindings. It was fine for climbing but the moment things leveled out I couldn't straighten my legs causing quad burn and lower back pain. I'm sure if you're dedicated you could work out a good system but with what I was working I wouldn't want to do any kind of lengthy traversing.

That's an easy one - just do it one ski at a time. |
