| Downtown works for me, but I'm going to be in the Lakeview area prior to the CT gathering so may be a bit late. |

| I'm going to try and get out one way or another this weekend but don't know where yet. Need to put a few miles on before I attempt any scrambles though. (between all the rain and work'n too much I'm not in any kind of condition yet) |

Sure.
That works for me since I live in the SW as well. (Near Coach Hill but still just ~10 min. away.) |

| Works for me! See ya there. As I've never met you two, do either of you have any distinctive wear to recognize you by and hone in on your coordinates in the pub? |

My pic is in my profile.
I'll probably be wearing a black Arcteryx softshell if it's raining. Otherwise, I'll be wearing a T-shirt.
I think I've been to the Bass Brothers once before and if I remember correctly it's pretty big and crowded due to the college nearby. I suppose we could meet outside if everyone's sure they can make it for 8pm. |

I'm tall and skinny, (some would say handsome.. but not many). I'll wear a ball cap and a red jacket.
The pub has been very quiet the last few times I was there. I don;t know how it stays in business. |

Sounds good! I'll see you guys at 8pm on Thursday night.
Hopefully we'll get some lurkers from this forum joining us as well. |

| Yes, all you "lurkers", feel free to show up. No skill, CT posts or fitness required. (you can buy me a beer if you feel the need) |

Nice to meet you two. Sounds like both of you are keen to get out there and are very experienced. We talked about the Alberta section of Club Tread and how small it was. Calipso was a bit dissapointed with the response she received in terms of finding a hiking partner. Hopefully CT will grow this year in Alberta and there will be more opportunities to hike together.
Tuna and I talked breifly about organizing some group trips later in the year. An easy hike for the 'new to hiking' people. Hopefully we can encourage some new members to get out without feeling intimadated by the hike itself. A moderate hike for the majority of people. Something that appeals to a broader group of hikers, and a tough hike for those who want to test their metal.
Put up some ideas on how to grow CT in Alberta and how we can organize a few group trips. My summer doesen't open up much until the end July so I'll post a trip for August or September. Maybe we need a calendar on the website (Jim?) or some sort of scheduler... just thinking out loud.

Sorry I couldn’t make it.
Well as far as not getting much response, we are a relatively small contingent and we all have our own agendas to attend to.
We should have a group hike of some kind so we can get to know each other in that environment but I won’t initiate something unless I’m 100% sure I can attend. Also beers is one thing but striking off on a hike with someone you don’t know is another as you put a certain amount of faith in their abilities to handle the days events (navigation, wildlife, pace, etc) and as much as epic tales make good stories I must say I don’t go out of my way for them.
For those new to the site I would echo others comments on other treads and suggest putting up a few trip reports etc. Helps to get a ‘feel’ for who people are and what kinds of hikes they like to do etc.

Exist on the site for a bit. I like to meet people for hiking, but am not comfortable just randomly signing up with someone I know nothing more of than "hi, i'm in calgary - let's hike! my name is handle!" If you start to interact with people on the website, I'm far more likely to view you as a real person, and be interested in meeting up for hikes. It also helps that I come to know what you do and what you're into so as to determine whether we'd hike well together.
I like to get out a lot, but lack a car, and rely on others for transportation, so I am unable to sign on to things unless I know I can carpool from somewhere in the city. |

Hi, I'm Daniel. I'm adding this post, just to introduce myself, and get on your page. It would be great to meet you guys on the rocks, and I intend to try. Today I'm meeting some other CT members, at "Planet Coffee".
So here's my intro:
In 2006, I climbed with a group, on at least a dozen different crags around K-Country. During that summer, my climbing ability improved from 5.5 (sometimes) to 5.10 (sometimes).
In 2007, I climbed a few routes on Kid Goat. I started leading on bolts and on gear. But I had trouble linking up with people, so I did a lot of ridge-walks, and solo scrambles.
In 2008, I tried ice-climbing. What a laugh that is! More scrambles, and I'm working on overnight backpack trips.
And now I'm introducing myself to Club Tread. I've got gear, and a rope, and I know where a lot of rocks are. I love the Rockies: It's hard to stop saying "Wow". And it's a lot of fun: Every mountain adventure is a learning experience.
Bye for now, Daniel
P.S. I live in SW Calgary, in Southwood, near the Anderson LRT Station. I have a car, so I can pick up anybody in the area. |
