I'm a mycologist myself, so I love getting distracted on hikes to go check out all the cool fungi around. If there are any trips planned to go hunt for mushrooms, I'd definitely be interested in joining!
That's awesome news !!!! Now let's get iluze's thread back on track !!! For Mushi stuff, go here...
I used to be with the VMS when I lived in West Van, and if in doubt about any ID work, I always ask my buddy there...
I "hunt" for mushies every time I go outside my back door...
C'Jack...
ps: welcome to CT, Shan... |

Just thought I'd offer a word of caution about picking mushrooms.
A few years back in Washington there was a story about some people that were visiting from China. They went out into the forest and picked a bunch of mushrooms that looked the same as the one's they were used to picking and eating back in China.
They made up a nice spagetti sauce with the mushrooms that were picked. Some hours later everyone started getting sick, I think it was 4 or 5 people that were involved.. Anyways if I remember the story correctly they all ended up needing liver transplants.. I don't know what shroom it was that they confused with the one they would pick in China.
Anyhow morel of the story is that what you may pick and eat in your country may not be the same here, even if the mushrooms look exactly the same... Dave |

Actually I got some of it wrong. It was a woman from Korea who picked them in Oregon and of 5 people that ate them 4 needed liver transplants
Anyhow just felt compelled to offer the warning to people visiting here from afar...
Enjoy your stay in BC iluze, your gonna be blown away at the diversity and beauty of the land and the abundant wildlife... If I wasn't so busy right now I'd see if you'd like to make a trip to Vancouver Island and take you to the Cape Scott trail... Take care and have a blast.... Dave |

| Dave, you're absolutely right. As for false morels, don't ever pick them in North America! Or anywhere else for that matter, if you don't know what you're doing. |
