Thanks for the info Lee. It's nice to have several different options to choose from. After three years, I feel I am in need of a refresher course.

Hi all, A friend of mine is willing to teach a course to a CT Group this winter! He is a 20+ year Certified guide, qualified to teach these courses. Interested parties so far... Include in the price is lift ticket and use of safety equipment (shovel, probe, trans).
Here are the details:
Canadian Avalanche Association Approved - Avalanche Skills Training Course Level #1
Content - The Canadian Avalanche Association “Avalanche Skills Training” (AST) course is a comprehensive program consisting of 6 hours of class time spread over 2 nights & 2 - 8hr. field days for a total of 22 hours of direct instruction. The course focuses on understanding, recognizing & avoiding avalanche hazards. We focus on terrain evaluation, snow pack structure, weather, safe route finding & avalanche rescue techniques.
Location - The first field day is held on Mount Seymour, while the 2nd is held in the backcountry behind Whistler/Blackcomb (skiers & snowboarders with snow shoes or split boards only). Weather & snow conditions may require us to relocate to areas such as the Coquihalla, Diamond Head in Garibaldi Park or Cypress/Hollyburn on the North Shore. If your group is comprised of snowshoers then one of the alternatives to Whistler would be used. The 2 classroom sessions begin at 7:00pm – meeting place is TBA. We also have an hour long wrap up session after the 2nd field day.
Prerequisites - Basic skiing, snow boarding or snowshoeing ability. Touring equipment or snow shoes required. No previous avalanche experience is required. Equipment rentals are available at The Mountain Equipment Co-Op.
Cost $250 Person, includes the following Lift Access – Cost Reduced if not required. 22 hours of Direct Instruction, maximum of 5 students per Instructor Course Manual, Updated CAA material including the brand new Avaluator. Industry recognized certificate of completion Use of all safety equipment (transceiver, probe & shovel), save on rentals. Variety of course dates available, we can fit your schedule Custom Courses available including Intro to Travel in the Backcountry 20+ years of experience in the Avalanche Forecasting Industry Curriculum Allows Students easy progress into the CAA AST Level 2 Program

Hmmm, I had a post on this thread that has been deleted. How/why does that happen?
Anyway, sorry P6 - I can't make it for an avy course anytime immediately. And I'd probably like a refresher more geared to travelling decisions than the standard intro.
I assume the only difference in cost between the 22-hr courses posted by P6 and LeeL is that the cheaper one ($145) does not include lift tickets?
