Hello,

Does anybody out there know what the conditions are like in the Mt Assiniboine area? How are the bugs?

Thanks

You've probably seen the trail report, but if not: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/mt_assiniboine/trail_report.pdf

It's a fair bet that the mosquitoes are terrible. Parks Canada actually mentions the mosquitoes in their trail report - I've never seen that - so they must be getting thick!

I've been to Assiniboine 3 times in the early/mid 2000s and without a doubt it is byfar the worst backcountry destination for mosquitoes I have ever been to. And because every time I went it was horrible so it wasn't just a one time occurence, I'm guessing its brutal every year. The only place that was almost as bad was the Egypt Lake area of Banff which is not very far. I also remember the blackflies (or whatever bugs they were that infested the lakeshores, especially Cerulean) were big time annoying too. If the scenery wasn't so awesome and the potential for excellent fishing I would probably never want to go back.

Be sure to bring enough bug spray and something like a bandana to cover your neck. And oh yeah, my first post :)
