Sometimes it's better not knowing what you're getting yourself into until it's too late to turn around. On google earth the lake below McGuire looks so close with decent access I figured it would be no trouble getting there. I parked at the last branch road before the TH for McGuire and walked a short distance on the FSR until it ended.
Then I cut across a clearcut until I reached forest. All I needed to do was head south-west, hugging the hillside and avoiding what I took to be cliffs. There was very little elevation to gain (in theory) but I kept finding easy routes that lead higher only to have to go below obstructions and then regain some height. The little map on my GPS let me know where I was in relation to the lake but misled me as to the terrain. I found myself bashing through some prickles which only put up a bit of a fight. In the final push before the lake I found an old trail and followed it up. It was pretty cool having this little lake all to myself. I took some pics and wandered around to the far side before making my way back. On the return trip I was able to follow the trail further but lost it crossing snow fields and bashing through more prickly plants. Does anyone know where the start of this trail is? I wouldn't mind flagging this trail if I knew where to begin. |

That is a sweet payoff for your efforts. Pretty little jewel of a lake, and great shots of it and McGuire's west face.

| I've been to this lake twice before and seem to recall picking up that trail fairly soon after the clearcut. Yes it is a nice little lake despite it's first nations history. |
