A couple of weeks ago I decided to go on a short hike. Something felt strange, kind of a déjà vu sensation.
Anyways, we got going from the town after viewing the destination peak.

As usual, the best trails are on the other side of the fence.

Some decent views of the town as we gain elevation.

Capilano Lake?? I’m sure the colour is different…

Look, Holyburn and Black across the valley.

The trail cuts past some steep bits and there seems to be some maintenance for the washouts.

Stairs?? But they aren’t quite to the same building code.

A prominent lookout on the west ridge. No coins around.

Nearing the top we come across a road and cabins

Finally we are following the chairlift cut. The chair looks old…it is still in operation in the winter!

Classic station at the top

They have really done a good summer decorating job with the skating rink. Where are Cari and Boo?

Not sure how a chainsaw cut these statues.

Breakfast at the Bazar, kind of like this trip.

Hey, there’s the Camel.

Time to go down but first look at this treasure from the past.

This 84 year old gondola features a max load of 14 including the operator. Note the wooden floor with the escape hatch.

Going over the first tower we all went wooooo

Second tower coming up. We passed the other car before the third tower.

Bottom station. The stairs were built so the passengers can get off wherever the cars stop. Round trip price is around $20; price to come down $10. Some things are the same everywhere.

some liberties taken, just like historical fiction.

Now do we guess where you were?

I saw this picture, and the statues, and thought "Salzberg"

Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria - so unlike Metro Vancouver and the Grind. I bet you had a lovely time .... thanks for the pictures from "meiner Heimat"!

Nice one! My favourite travel destination in my life was in Bavaria. I loved Obersalzberg, Berchtesgaden, Garmisch-Partenkirchen areas. Some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. This is the reason I like living in Hope, in the mountain area, that reminds me a little of the scenery in Bavaria.

you guys nailed it. Bad Reichenhal hike and Salzburg for breakfast (20 minutes away). The Predigtstuhl (preacher's stool or pulpit) has a popular 1150m hike with a gondola for return.
What scared me was the concrete tower arms--did they know about pre-stressed concrete back in 1924? Or even considerations for corrosion...
