Has anyone got up to the HBC Trail head on Sowaqua yet this year?

The road was blocked by rock slides into the summer last year.

Layout work's been done on a couple new cutblocks so access should be viable.
I drove in to the back end last June so not sure about "blocked by slides" either?

Those slides got fixed really quickly last year (the Hope Mtn Centre folk sent me progress updates, after my friend and I parked at the first slide.) Sorry, can't help you with conditions this year.

Sorry, checked my journal, it was earlier in June that the road was impassable.

conditions will change daily this time of year, you may drive in no problems, and then be stranded with no way out the next day..keep a shovel and saw with you.

I spoke to folks who were in earlier this week - the road is in excellent condition - two wheel drive access just fine at this point.

Maps and GPS data available at http://www.hopemountain.org/index.php?id=12&name=TrailDetails&trailID=12#HBCTrailMaps

Expect snow above Sowaqua Creek Trailhead.

The Hope Mountain Centre is constructing new campsites at Deer Camp and Conglomerate Flats this summer.

BTW - they have also constructed and installed a new bridge over the creek at the Peer's Creek Trailhead.

on sun July 1st i hiked up the HBC Trail from Sowaqua FSR. the road in is in great 2wdr condition, as they are logging about 1km before HBC Trail crossing. i hiked up mt. Davis to Deer Camp.there is still lots of snow at the top(3-4 ft.)!!the snow starts about a half km. before Deer Camp.

this picture is taking at Deer Camp. It is of a hellicopter load of building material, for a new campground dropped off last fall for the Hope Mountain Centre and all the lumber is still under snow but the new bear proof food cache has poked through!
