My daughter and I went for a hike up to the Brew hut yesterday via the winter route. We were initially thrown off finding the trail head because there is a new logging spur that takes off right at the corner in the road where the trail starts. After some initial confusion we figured out where we were and were on our way following the now snow free route through the initial cut block. It is reasonably well marked and a lot of brush has been cut back making it a viable all season route.

However, shortly after getting into the forest, we encountered the new logging activity.

After navigating the mess of freshly fallen timber, we picked up the trail and headed on up. The snow has melted back to about the 1100 M elevation which was quite a contrast to a trip I made up here last year at the end of June.

Beyond that, the snow made for easy travel and we had a great hike on up to the hut.

About 2.5 hours to the hut. We had a snack, took a few pictures and then headed back down.

Given the logging activity, I expect this route is effectively closed for the season and the lower forest may well be gone next season. On the other hand, road access will probably be pushed up to a higher point ...

Chuck, thanks for the update. Sounds like the winter route is turning all-season. I wonder if the "summer route" from Brandywine is still being maintained.
