I used to work at a kids camp across the lake from Salmon Arm and hiked up Mt Bastion well over a dozen times. I'm back in the area for a couple of days and so wondered how fast I could get to the tower up top. From Sunnybrae Bible Camp I cut up through the bush and fought the steep grass slopes and loose shale between the two main cliffs and got to the tower in 1:12. It was 850m vertical so that means I was gaining over 100m every 10mins. I was pretty happy with myself. Back in the day I think I made it up in 2 hours once, usually I'd go with groups and that was anywhere from 3-5 hours.
I had driven my bike up earlier and had a great ride down in the mud.

Wow, that's pretty impressive time up!
You'll probably notice the water lapping at the road's edge in Sunnybrae, the lake is unreal right now.
If you do the hike/bike thing again and drive up to drop your bike off, be aware that there is active logging in the area therefore frequent trucks on the 260 Road, and there are no pullouts for the first 1 3/4 km. You'd be past the activity by 3 km (the 030 Road).
This logging affects the Shuswap Trail Alliance's Reinecker Creek trail network, so if anybody had plans to hike those trails, be aware that they are currently closed.
How long ago did you work there? Both my sons attended the camp over the years. What was your nickname?

| Hey Ribs. My oldest son was home for weekend so I asked him if he remembered you--he first attended Sunnybrae in 2000, but I guess he was in another cabin 'cause he didn't recall you. |
