Any recommendations for good hike-in camp spots in and around Harrison lake area? Ideally something where we can hike in the first day, camp and hike-out (and around) the 2nd day. Maybe something near a hot spring? What about Statlu?

I'm not at all familiar with the area and our goal is to go somewhere thatisn't too heavily trafficked but also not covered in snow this time of year. My GF and I are both fairly fit so we can handle a decent hike and have 4WD to get to some of the more out-of-the-way areas.

If that doesn't work, maybe Whatcom or Dewdney trail? I haven't done either of those.

thanks!

Not too sure about any of them, Maybe Eaton Lake is snow free by now, if so, it may be nice, camp by the lake. Lots of other places to camp and hike up in the Skagit Valley.

You could hike into clear creek hot springs. Last I heard there was an avalanche that is blocking the road about a 30min walk from the springs. Othen then that Mckay lake on the way up to mount st benedict might be what your looking for, there may still be snow there though.

You won't have many options right now, because 99% of the places are still under heavy snow. You could go to Statlu, if you don't care about it being a really short hike. This year totally blows...even more than last year.

Even though it's supposed to rain all weekend, we are still going to attempt Statlu. Apparently there is another hike up to a smaller lake just north of it.

For us it's more about just getting out of the city and being outside rather than an epic hike.

Expect a lot of snow getting to that smaller lake as it's 1400 feet higher. Hope you have a GPS to find your way to the lake as the trail is vague enough in the summer, let alone under snow cover.

We made it to Statlu just fine. The directions in the Trails section of this site were very precise and we had little trouble finding the various turn-offs. We hit one small patch of snow crossing the top of the gulley and I had the comedic misfortune of falling through a section... about 2 feet :)

There was one group that had hiked up earlier (with 2 small kids!) that had the 1st camp spot so we made our way down the shore until we found a very small beach spot on the water. We didn't bother trying to find brotherhood trail as it was getting late and the weather was nasty. If you are planning on hiking around the lake, there is a nasty rock-fall section which can be very awkward with heavy packs.

I'm looking forward to going up when the weather is nice next time... getting tired of camping in the rain.
