Seeing as I know that Garibaldi Lake was still frozen over last week and I had never seen it frozen before I headed to Rubble Creek Parking lot. It was a good hike up with snow starting intermittently around the 4km mark and full snow cover around 5km mark. Because of the cold weather of Saturday night and Sunday the snow was nice and solid and I did not need any snowshoes or micro pikes on the way up to the lake. The trail has a few winter detours still and the real trail is nowhere to be found. As I arrived at the lake I saw that in the sunny weather over the last few days the sun had made the snow soft as there were some seriously deep post holes that I had to navigate around. Once at the lake I stopped for a bite to eat in the day shelter to get out of the worsening rain. The rain was starting to get softer as I left the hut so I put on my micro spikes for a little more grip. On my way out I noticed two people walking along the ice close to Mount Price guess they had done the Neve Traverse or something. On my way out the fog had started to roll in and the Barrier was no longer visible.
Price looked fantastic. An easier hike than I expected except for the postholing after the bridge at the mouth of Garibaldi Lake.
I bet it was nicer but I had things I had to do on saturday. You just have to deal with the cards you are delt. Those post holes looked nasty at the lake. Glad I was able to float above them!
