Have a week in June to explore this trail. I was just wondering what portion of trail would be recommended as there isn't enough time to do the whole thing. Looking for a 5 or 6 night stretch. thanks.

I would recommend doing the lower part of the trail - perhaps from Powell River proper to the southern end of the trail. This will take you through the most scenic parts of the trail, especially Tin Hat Mountain and Mount Troubridge. There are huts at Tin Hat and Mount Troubridge. It will also be easy logistically, as you can take the bus up from Horseshoe Bay to Powell River, and you'll end up back at the Saltery Bay ferry terminal - no need to bring a vehicle!
I have hiked almost all the trail as day hikes (in fact I'm off to do a section after posting this reply), it's a wonderful trail, you'll enjoy it.
Here's a link to their website in case you haven't found it.

Well, sorry to dissagree Susie, but the logging has really changed my perception of the trail! :( The logging is completely out of control in my oppinion!!! I did another section of the trail on Sunday, starting at Lewis Lake, and I spent the whole time in a 1 or 2 hundred m. buffer zone where they can't log because of the creek!! It's devastating to see :( I'm sad to say I would not recomend this trail to anyone. I'm realizing that I am somewhat jaded from hiking in the parks, but even a lot of the local oldtimers don't want to hike as much anymore....it's just too depressing to see "how things have changed, and not for the better!"

There you go, completely opposed points of view! Rustysheep has a point, why not start at the beginning and complete it later? Actually this may be the smarter choice in June, there will still be lots of snow on Troubridge. NoQuitting, I'm sorry you are feeling so down on the place, but there are still many many wonderful hikes to enjoy.

Susie,I'm not "so down" on the place,I'm just saying, the logging,TO ME,and others,is brutal. I can't speak of the Sarah Point end,but take a ride up towards Tin Hat as I did,and you'll see what what I mean. I was on a lovely trail to Granite Lake last night, great waterfalls, big clear cuts on both sides again, though a bigger buffer zone this time. Like I said, maybe I'm jaded or spoiled?? I was up on Sunday with someone whose lived here for 40 years, and he was shocked. Was down to Fairview Bay a couple of weeks ago,and there's some big new roads going up in there.......... :( Still alot lot of beauty here, but it's dissapearing fast!!!

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if the bugs are bad in this area in July? Planning to take the same route as Rustysheep in mid-July, just curious what the conditions might be like! Thanks!
