I've been wanting to return to this fine ridge and today was the day to do it. Brought plenty of SPF60 along . I started out around 9am and fortunately still had plenty of hard surface snow to make my way up on. Pretty much ideal snow as my snowshoes dug in maybe an inch, so it was perfect for traction.

Still plenty of snow in the meadow

Moon set:

Took me 1:20 to reach Zupjok summit. Mmmm nice ridge!

More tasty ridges to the west

Looking back on Zupjok with Needle Peak behind

Big cornices up there still. Heard the first cracking off in the distance somewhere at around noon, followed by a number of others as the day progressed.

Steinbok and Ibex?

I had some lunch at the first minor summit after Zupjok with the intention of carrying on towards Llama and then Alpacca. Unfortunately there was a short rather steep section with some very hard-pack snow in the decsent that I wasn't comfortable with. Yes I likely would have had no problems with it, but if I slipped, I'd have no way of self-arresting and being by myself I just didnt want to risk it. Sometimes it's the little stuff like this is what causes the big accidents and I didn't want to risk it, so I turned around at this point.
I stopped for awhile back in the meadow below and enjoyed a nice Grolsch..

Cheersch!

I think this picture says a lot about a winter's worth of snow accumulation in the mountains along the BC Coast. No doubt we'll need lots of warm dry summer weather to melt this like other years. Thanks for showing it here.

Awesome cornice, fine shots Tim.

What a go to do this one; I know the steep section you speak of... and then there is another one larger still beyond the next rise.

Might be in on Iago on Sunday, depends.
