No one was home on our first trip up to Mt. Laughington on April 27th, and we found the neighbourhood a little unwelcoming at the time, so we decided to take our chances and pay another visit yesterday. : )
Our trip on the 27th:
http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=43112
And yesterday. Views along the roads...looks promising. : )

We took a right onto the Upper Airplane FSR this time. Elevation of aprox. 1200m and where I put the snowshoes on. Just ahead of where Katie is, we took a left off the road and headed straight up towards Laughington. About 1400m's where we turned off.

About 30-40cm of new snow from this past week. Travel up these steep slopes was tough with the snowshoes sinking up to a foot. I wouldn't say the snow was wet, but it was heavy. Had great traction all the way up. A lot of 30 sec. breaks.
There it is...the true summit of Mt. Laughington. : )

Katie powering on up. : )

Digging in up the last little ridge to the summit. : ) Not too close to that edge, Katie...yikes.

Summit, and wouldn't you know it, the front door had a 'welcome' mat! The smell of tea brewing and cookies right out of the oven overwelms us. Best part of all...the curtains are wide open! : )

Summit, with the route we came up below. Sub-summit just poking out to the right. Took us 1:20 to summit from where we cut off of Upper Airplane. From the car, it was 4:20.

Various summit shots. : )

Spent a good hour enjoying the summit. No wind whatsoever. Heard one thunderous slide from Munday's direction, but couldn't pick it up visually. The first half hour we had to listen to snowmobiles charging up to Cheam's summit, but they shut it down at 1 pm, so it was peace and quiet for the remainder of our stay. Another magical experience. A good time to catch up on some sleep too. : )

One last pose before we go. : )

Saying our 'goodbyes'. : )

Steep, and look at the mess we made! : )

Looking back at our tracks.

Steep side-hilling.

Small slide off of the sub-summit this past week.

It's always fun watching the snow fly as she barrels down a steep snow slope. : )

Ah, Katie, I'd look to your left if I were you! : )

We both go into zen mode for long road walk back to the car. : )

Enjoy! : )

Nicely done John. Upper Airplane Creek Road was the way go. Nice shots on a beautiful day, with views in abundance. Not like our ISAAR trip last week.
Amazing how much new snow fell up there during the last week. With higher freezing levels; imagine there will be a lot of melting.

| Katie reminds me of my last dog - always out in front. Rainy stays right behind me most of the time, quite often I have to look back to make sure she's still there. |

Ya, she has trained me so well, that when she does allow me to lead, I find myself constantly looking back to make sure she is still there too. : ) Reminds me of a CT email I received awhile back...person was complaining that I took too many pictures of Katie's ass, and not enough of her face. I can't really help it when she is usually out in front. Plus, I prefer candid shots anyway. : )

I took the time to sleep over these last two hikes before writing the reports. Usually I bang them off in a half hour or so when I drop Katie off at home after the hikes.
Thanks again for all the great vibes, everyone! : )
