| Looking for some hiking recommendations. I have a trip planned to Revelstoke 8/3 – 8-8. Last September I mountain biked Keystone Standard Basin and tried to ride Frisby Ridge the next day but got rained out. The people I will be with this trip are strong hikers but they don’t mountain bike so I might only be able to get in Frisby Ridge this time. I still want to take them to Keystone one day but I need some hikes to fill the 3 other days. Interested in hikes in the 19 - 38 km roundtrip range, ultrascenic, high alpine ridge or pass type stuff. We have done a lot of hiking in Glacier/Waterton and a little around Banff. Are there any similar hikes around Revy (or wherever a good base camp is)? Loops or shuttles are icing on the cake of course. Also any campground recommendations would be helpful (showers…?). We will probably camp at Wadey Lake at least one night? I’ll be coming from Spokane, WA and meeting them somewhere as they come from Libby, MT. I appreciate any ideas, suggestions, books, maps.. |

The first website that came to mind for me was http://goldenscrambles.ca/
I don't know how much they have in the immediate Revelstoke area, but it might be a start. |

Eva/Jade Lakes in Revelstoke NP.
Most trail in Glacier NP (Rogers Pass) are highly scenic - it's hard to pick a bad one, but, some that come to mind are Avalanche Crest, Abbot Ridge, Sir D bivy site. Check the Parks Canada website.

Hey kzlucas, you're looking at a nice hiking area. Keystone-Standard Basin is an exception to the rule that Revelstoke hikes are strenuous, it's by far the easiest day hike around. There aren't many long trails around here. If you return to KSB, I suggest you go off-trail at the high point (~ 5km) and do the easy scramble to Keystone Peak.
Here are my suggestions:
Glacier National Park * Bald Mountain--just east of Rogers Pass, about 16 km each way to the campground then beyond that you can stroll through the alpine meadows as far as you want to go (there's your 38 K R.T.). Fabulous views once you're on the mtn.
* Abbott Ridge--trail is only 5 km, but you can go past the end of trail along the ridge a ways further. Some scrambling to get to Mt Afton and beyond.
* Balu Pass trail, with an easy scramble to top of Cheops Mtn. Great views throughout. How many are you? There is usually a "rule of 6" hiking party size in effect because of grizzlies.
* You'll notice a long trail through the Beaver Valley on the maps, but the trail is closed because a bridge is out.
Mt Revelstoke National Park: Trails are fairly short, but you can make a full day if you combine Eva Lake, Miller Lake and Jade Lakes into one hike, plus some scrambling above the lakes.
Outside the Parks:
* Sproat Mtn--South of Revy, a nice trail to the forestry lookout. From there you can walk the ridge northwards another 2 km to the summit.
* Mt Cartier is a long day hike, tons of elevation gain. Leads to an old lookout (recently restored) and fab views.
* Mt Begbie--long steep trail, mainly used for climbing the mtn, but from the end of trail you can wander further west below the glaciers and into the Revelation Pass area (maybe check out Google Earth).
Check out http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/dco/trails/trails.htm for info on these trails.
As for campgrounds with showers, there's Williamson Lake right in Revy, there's a KOA just east of town. As for provincial parks, Blanket Creek on Hwy 23 is the only one with showers. Martha Creek is a popular CG about 10 minutes north of town. You'll be here over BC Day long weekend, make sure you book ahead (like right about now!) to get in to any of these.
Hope this helps!
