Hello,

Does anyone have any info about accessing Widgeon Peak by canoe.

How long would it take to canoe to any access trail?
Is there enough water right now to be able to pull this off?
How long would it take to summit after beaching canoe?

Thanks in advance! Feel free to join us this Saturday.
Cheers,
Kelly

1) 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours depending on boat and paddling effort.
2) Yes.
3) Don't rightly know, Widgeon Peak is more commonly accessed from Burke. Assuming you are thinking of the normal route to Widgeon lake to start, then off to Burke ridge on the old route, (poorly marked, be sure you know where you are and where you want to be) at a hard pace with route-finding I would guess a good 6-8 hours until you are back to where the canoes were before the water rose and floated them off. (So be sure to pull them up higher than you think necessary. It's still tidal there.)
The route was somewhat cleared in and marked in 2010 but I doubt it is very clear below and certainly not all that visible above the snowline. See http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=37057
Topo map, compass, GPS, basic gear for an uncomfortable but survivable night out recommended.

I would also suggest extra time and allow for some difficulties for the entire day.
Take care, have fun.

Depends on the tide as well. If the tide is low, you may find yourself in and out of the boat a lot more often than you would like and that can be a factor.

....and I'm guessing you'll have snow. I've been to the lake in July and had 3-4 feet of snow left.

In perfect conditions, this trail/route is difficult and is about 4-5 hours from where you leave your canoe to the summit. I would say it would be even more difficult with snow and not knowing the route. I would hope your group has very good route finding skills. You can look for flagging leading uphill from the road between the campsite and the creek to the south.

Good luck and turn around before you get lost!!
