I did Taggart with a group from the COC in the rain. I wouldn't recommend this trail in the rain simply because it's muddy and very slippery. I guess the trail is good for exercise but the destination was a disappointment. The peak has fences and buildings with a gravel road that leads up to it. A letdown peak I'd call it. I didn't even take a picture from the top and that's unusual!

Although the peak was a letdown, there's a view about 40 minutes up the trail and then different types of forest throughout the three hour hike to Taggart Summit.

Club Tread won't let me download any more pictures at this time but the forest was inviting and worth a revisit. Next time I'll go just as far as the frog pond

Too bad I'm having trouble downloading pictures of this interesting and varying forest, next time I'll go up in nice weather as Hedda suggested :).

Happy trails,
Lynn

I must agree. The hike wasn't bad but the destination was filled with non wilderness.

Hi Lynn...

On my 2nd trip, I made it to the top. I was warned ahead of time to expect a station up there. The trail was enjoyable with the type of forest and trail bed...when it was not raining.

I went up to Taggart Peak last Thursday and took three people from Vancouver with me. While it's true that there are structures at the summit, the views on a clear day are better than from Taggart's neighbour, Sumas Mountain (to which you can also drive). There are many destinations I wouldn't bother with on a rainy day. We had reasonably good weather and all four of us enjoyed the hike. It's too bad you were disappointed, Lynn, but look on the bright side - you didn't have to drive too far and it was good exercise!

Sorry, must be the desert cowboy in me

Slippery. Careful with your ankle. Beautiful, forest!! All those different shades of geeen on that mountain. Looks like a really nice, pensive place. I don't get much rain and never get fogged or misted in like that. I like how sounds amplify and echo in those conditions.

After hiking Nesakwatch on the weekend, Taggart would seem a bit low in the wilderness ranking. Though it is a pretty trail, and I like driving by Sumas looking up, thinking I can tell where it crosses the mountainside.

I hiked Taggart Peak in the fall and loved the autumn colors. Though the radio tower was a disappointment, I found the views out to Mission, Chwk and WA. really nice. You'll have to go again during a different season and as Hedda said, at least you got your exercise. :)

RM - you're a hoot!

Hedda - The forest was magical and I'm sure there's a view up there somewhere on a clear day.

Karl, Janice & Jenn - I'll be sure to try again on a better day.

Tim - there is something to be said about higher elevation hikes, I just can't get enough!

Thanks all for your kind replies
