Hi Everyone,
I have started a charity kids indoor climbing program to teach climbing to kids with disadvantaged backgrounds. The goal is to help them pick up climbing as a regular sport/passion and benefit them physically and mentally to thrive and overcome whatever challenges in their lives.
Thanks to many amazing volunteers and Cliffhanger's sponsorship of admission fees, this program has been running monthly. We also recently received a donation from SportChek and have so far sent one kid to the Cliffhanger Junior Kid Rock Climbing (weekly 2hr climbing camp for 4months). So this program is a continuum project, not just a one time fun event.
We are looking for Climbing Mentors to belay and mentor the kids in our monthly 2hr sessions at Richmond and Coquitlam Cliffhanger. If you know how to belay competently and would like to make a difference in some kids' lives, please contact me at joewtc at hotmail dot com. More info: www.facebook.com/ClimbNConquer

Hi Everyone!
We are looking for more volunteers!
Since this program started in Sep 2011 (Please like http://www.facebook.com/ClimbNConquer), it's grown to 3 locations (Vancouver, Richmond and Coquitlam Cliffhanger) in partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and PLEA Kidstart. Thanks to a donation from SportChek, we have sent 5 kids to Cliffhanger weekly2hr junior program to climb more (*the kids can choose any climbing gyms). So far, we have 18 volunteers and 54 little bro/sis and big bro/sis participating in the program.
The kids love it and it's amazing that climbers can use their climbing passion and skills to mentor and belay the kids (who otherwise have difficult financial access to climbing) to climb and in turn use climbing to help the kids develop the physical and mental fitness to overcome the enormous challenges in their lives.
If you want to contribute to a good cause, this might be it!
This program is all volunteer-run and has 0 expense. Everything goes to the kids. Thanks for the generous support from the Vancouver Rock Climbing Group (volunteers), Cliffhanger Climbing Gym (sponsors admission) and SportCheck (sponsors additional climbing courses).

I know there used to be a program in that ran out of the Rockies like this...and in other parts of the world, and for sure, it seems like a great endeavor. The people who will have to put a lot of time and effort into this deserve a real pat on the back! This is one thread that should be bumped.

| Hi Everyone, the program has been running great and I'm planning to extend it to more kids/youth. I'm wondering if anyone has any contacts or know any agencies this project can benefit? Thank you. Joe 778.999.7104 joewtc at hotmail.com |
