Yup, I made an account called Anon E Moose (without a period).
He was doing a really high amount of ranting that day and (although I know I could just not read it) it was driving me crazy.
I am such an ecogirl... but seriously! that guy's rants makes me want to litter and log the old growth.
Anyways, what is the big deal about impersonating an anonymous person. Is it even possible?!
But seriously, it seems to have upset some people, so sorry about that. I was just being reactive.

Shadee,
I'm not sure, but I think that Anon once had a mailing link that has since been removed. Quite possibly he got flamed off the forum as well as on.
But you're right, I wish that Anon had an email link as I've been tempted to write to him to congratulate him on some of his posts.

Interesting! I think having an email addy would be a surefire way to get rid of most spammers, with the thought that anything that requires a little bit of effort will discourage most. Good idea. Anyone thought to mention this to Longshadow?
Offtopic, but what the hell - With regard to the exchange between Dcongrav and Mick, I'd like to say that one of the best things about CT is the many varying opinions. Most important is the driving force (intent) behind what we post. I have a lot of respect for Dcongrav and Moose because they are willing to point out controversial issues. I have emailed Dcongrav thanking him for a post and encouraging him to post more, and mentioned on the forum to Moose the same thing. Moose likes to cut and paste, but so what? He may not offer his opinion every time, but he does often make me aware of something. And so I think his intent is not always to debate and stir the pot, but rather to open eyes. I think it's unfortunate they are bagged on all the time, but don't forget that people threw rocks at Jesus.

Thanks for the kind words Blackfly, much appreciated.
For the benefit of Anon and anyone else who may want or need one, I have 40+ Google Mail accounts available. Although they are not as hard to get as before, they are still by invitation as the product: GMAIL is still not open to the public. A GMAIL account allows for up to 1GB of storage and doesn't have the requirement of having to check every 30 days or else get your account cancelled like Hotmail. It also allows POP3 access from a variety of email clients including Outlook.
If any one is interested please email me and I'll send you an invitation.

That's very well said,Blackfly, and I would be remiss if I didn't say both Moose and DC have posted some very interesting material in the past.I hope they continue to do so.The truth is,many of us on the site are very concerned about conservation,so I guess I was commenting on the difference in styles,in essence. It is their right and choice to post the material they choose, but when I chided DC about that it wasn't meant to offend. It was just my way of saying"Hey,I'd be interested to hear about your experience in the hiking world."I guess I thought it would help me understand his approach better, but I digress.... Truth is,I did hijack DC's thread, which is not in good form, and the fact that he doesn't post TRs does not devalue his opinions. |

Thought that was a myth... I've had a hotmail account for eons, that I rarely vist anymore cause I deal with all my email via my ISP nowadays. and let me check.....
Yep. Maybe I've been flying under the radar
BF - as I recall Jesus was picked on, but for basic principle that it was more important to love and care for your fellow man rather than vie for power, influence and/or position. Think more understanding and appreciation towards your fellow man and less criticism, judgement and hostility.
I can relate to some other posts on this thread where it's been said that posting manner is more of an issue than the acutal post itself. Just a reflection of what I've experienced to date. Take it as you will.

It's generally considered a good idea to have one or more "disposable" email accounts for everyday usage in forums, newsletter subscriptions etc. and reserve using your ISP account only between trusted recipients.
It's estimated that 80% of the email circulating everyday is SPAM. In other words millions of pieces of mail is just plain junk, pornographic or illegal.
I like gmail in part for the available size of storage but also because it doesn't carry ads as do other free emails.
Now I've gotten off topic on my own thread.

I don't think its necessary to get into a debate over the characteristics and qualities of these two fellows because the reality is that I don't know either one. But I don't think either of them are "vying for power, influence and/or position".
Posting manners are different for everyone, but that doesn't make them less valid.

I was speaking more about the J-man and the times he lived in than anyone here on CT with the power-influence-position statement.
Although when a topic gets beaten to death I certainly wonder if position or pride is the main motivation winning out over a search for truth and understanding... |

I won't speak for anyone else but that definitely has been a factor in some of my decisions for carrying on a thread or argument even when I think I'm beat.
As for Dcongrav and Anon, I don't think they're to any harm. I don't necessarily agree with everything they say, but I do think that their heart is in the right place and I think its great that people are willing to stand for something. I think many of us share their concerns so I think its more of a clash of personalities rather than ideas. In any event, I think that debates are great because even if nobody's mind is changed, it is thought provoking and many of us have considered these issues. |
