Hey all! (Been a while)

I've been searching for a trail in Oregon, but for the life of me I can't find it, so I was hoping someone here knows which trail it is.

The trail leads through a series of tunnels (or caves), behind several waterfalls, and there are a couple of skinny "ledges" where a rope is fastened to the wall so you can hang on to it as you cross.

I don't know the milage, but I do remember that it can be done in just a few hours.

Anyone? Sorry, I can't give any more details... :(

Hey Spirit! Can we finally scratch you off the list of MIA CTers?

I don't know anything about Oregon trails, but maybe our resident Oregonian (is that a word, or did I invent a new one?), RichM, would know?

I think I've hiked this. It sounds like it's in Columbia Gorge

Pony Tail falls (http://www.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_pages/0012-0301-2022-4214.html) goes behind a waterfall - is that the trail you're thinking of?

Another trail I can think of with skinny ledges and ropes is also in the Gorge - It's called Eagle Creek. Eagle Creek is a longer hike, I never went very far on it. It definately had the skinny ledges though, but maybe not what you're thinking of? I don't think Pony Tail falls has ledges *or* caves.

Another place for a cave is near Mt St Helens - The Ape Cave. It's a combination of two lava tubes that are a few miles long each.

Might be some helpfull info here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/columbia/forest/recreation/trails/index.shtml

It's very possible. I actually looked at all those links this morning, but I can't find the site I had bookmarked, with pictures taken along the entire trail.

That one picture though, I definitely think that might be it, but I seem to recall the trail being longer, and having a different name. It MIGHT be Eagle Creek... I'll have to do more searching.

I'm on the right path though (no pun intended)!

Edit: A quick search for Eagle Ridge Trail found me this picture.
(taken from this page http://www.calwalkers.com/Oregon.html)

Unless there are other trails with such "tunnels", this is it. Now assuming that is the eagle ridge trail, I now have to find stats on difficulty and such... WOOOOO!!! (Thanks guys!)

Has anyone hiked this? Pictures? lol

Another possibility is the Silver Falls state park loop(s) southeast of Portland. Several falls, with some trips behind and/or around on ledges. Eagle and the Oneonta loop also possible, although the latter just has a ledge behind the one waterfall, really. Eagle is more ledgy and would be the more likely candidate of the two. The hike can be extended into a long day trip or overnighter, but the lower canyon is a short day. I think Elowah Falls is also supposed to have a tunnel or two on it, but haven't done this one, so no first hand experience there...

Doesn't every waterfall in Oregon have a trail behind it or does it just seems that way?

Seriously there are two candidates & both have been mentioned.

Eagle Creek Trail leads to Tunnel Falls (the pic you have posted) - it's in the Columbia River Gorge. Tunnel Falls is six miles in from the trailhead (thus 12 miles round trip) - the trail is completely level so you can easily do it in less than six hours. It's a fantastic trail that follows a 'groove' halfway up a deep mossy gorge (and has fixed ropes) - think Jurasic Park. There are many other waterfalls to enjoy along the way - Punchbown Falls being the most famous one. There are about a dozen other big waterfalls in the gorge but Pony Tail Falls is the only other one where the the trail goes behind it - however it's completely different as it's has a huge overhang while Tunnel Falls has a man made tunnel.

Silver Falls State Park near Salem Oregon has several waterfalls which you can walk behind (walls of water - not man blasted tunnels). A trail system connects them all but you can also drive to them individually. South Falls is the 'Big One' - but they are all impressive.
