I am a runner and I don't want to lose my cardio in the winter and don't really like going to the gym and running on a treadmill. I have recently heard about running snow shoes. Does anyone have any experience with these? I live 6 hours north of Vancouver and, well, the side roads are covered with snow already and the lake will soon freeze. So I will be running on mostly hardpacked snow and some ice and various depth or snow on the ice.

Be prepared for a real workout! Because I'm small and light, my running snowshoes are really no different than my walking/hiking snowshoes. You can rent them at most mountains, although Grouse rents them as regualar snowshoes for smaller people.

Hope you try it. It's quite fun.

My shoes are designed for running and they work great! You'll still have some adjustment to make as running in snowshoes is waaaaay different but it's a pleasant learning curve.
