"....and my favourite meat source is a type of German sausage called the "landjaeger". "
I LOVE landjaeger. It's summer sausage-like, but much denser and more garlic-y.

Landjaeger, king of horsecock.

When mountaineering I usually budget 2 a day for longer trips. |

I agree with the amount of calorie intake necessary be individual, such as your metabolism. After a weekend of touring (and eating relatively the same foods, it is disheartening to arrive back at the car, change into regular clothes, see my partner's pants two sizes too big now (he has a fast metabolism), and mine fit the same (obviously much slower metabolism). That said, if I eat any less food, I start to halucinate, and that's only fun the first time! -I totally support the soup idea. There's nothing better than hot soup at the end of the day before going to sleep. My favorites are the Thai noodle ones you can get at Caper's. Nice and salty-good for a day of not drinking enough. -excellent thread packed with helpful information, can't wait to try some of them out. |

I guesss I am somewhat lucky..Maybe I just abuse myself. Many times I hit a moderate trail only with a coffee in me,have a quick sandwich for lunch, and a few sips of water and I am good as new.I usually only drink 1/3 liter of water per 6 hour outing and food or snacks are not necessary. The Greendrop double and the Hanging lakes trip were 2 trips were I felt drained tho.As I get older I will have to avoid running on empty. The advantage is that multiday trips require me to carry less food than others, and when the water supply is critical I can get by for awhile. However in my pack there is usually all sorts off goodies to eat and lots of it ,just in case. |

The suck and blow tip for Hydration Packs is a good one. I do that too, works like a charm.
