Seeing pics of shaggy manes brought to mind a hunting trip up the logging road in Canoe Reach around Valemount a few years back. Some were in inky cap stage but the premium ones tasted like asparagus (only better). I made a sauce with them for freshly caught dollies. YUM! Found a puffball the size of a football. Will post pic when I find the slide.

Hmmmm... I should get out there again... I have a secret spot to find them, but I still have a couple of jars of dried ones that I did a couple of years back... Nice shot...

Ooh! I saw some of these on my way up Elk. Didn't know what they were until now!

Anyway, here's my offering to this thread. An oldie from my August hike up Mercer:

Nice big, fat boletus with my GPS in the frame to show its size!

HI, I'm new here and was wondering if you could tell me what type of mushrooms these are. I live in Ohio and we have tons of 'shrooms that look like these growing around here right now and was wondering if they were edible.

Here's some fun for you, Rick

Found the above Friday in an ancient cedar grove near the Cypress Works Yard, and the next group is from yesterday's hike up the Nelson Creek Canyon, also in West Vancouver....

Hi Gypsy-Lady (and Jimbo) I hate to give advice, especially when it's to do with edibility and when there's only a picture involved... So many variables... feel, smell, other tiny details...

However, I'm thinking Sulphur Tuft (hypholoma fasciculare)

Not edible... But not poisonous either... but you might regurgitate your spleen if you ate any !!!

C'Jack... If in doubt, throw them out !!!

I sauteed and ate a few of these this weekend. They were quite good. The flavour was really mild but the texture remained crispy after cooking. They'd probably be good in stuffings or in soups where you wanted to add some texture rather than extra flavour. I picked and dried about two pounds. The smell of the dried mushrooms is something like fresh bread!

Like you say, Magnetite... the dried ones, I throw into stuffing...
