My son is a big potato and is too heavy for kids snowshoes. He'll be 8 yrs old next week and is around 90lb+, so am looking for the smallest adult-size snowshoes if anyone wants to sell 'em for a reasonable price . Unless anyone knows of kid snowshoes that go to this weight?? p.s. Just for the record, for all of you gasping in shock at his weight...he's not a big fatso, he's "husky" (hee hee). He is also in better shape than many kids his age. Even though he can squash me like a bug, he's my baby. Thank you and goodnight.

Hee Hee Buy him small adult shoes that is what I did for both my kids. I go through enough shoes and ski boots each year without having to upgrade those too. I got mine at Sports Junkies last year for around $130 and they were rated for 150lbs small for my youngest and 210lbs large for my oldest. They were a no name brand made back east I don't know if they will have them this year but might be worth a call. Hope that helps.

Big kid! I know how you feel, my 3 boys were all big for their ages. Now that they are full grown, they are still bigger than average. My "baby" is turning 15 in a week, he is 6'5" weighs 210 and is a great defensive lineman in his first year of high school football, dare ya to call him husky to his face!

Hi Calixto,
Perhaps surprising, but there is some good outdoor gear on e-bay. My 7 year old is the opposite (on the small side for his age), but I just picked up some snowboard boots for him on e-bay, $18 Cadn., and I don't have to pay shipping cause the guy is going to deliver them to Vancouver! I think that snowshoes would be a more common item so you may want to consider checking out postings on e-bay. |

| As the season gets closer, you might be able to find a pair at CMS. I know people often cringe when someone mentions them, but often they have a blowout of the lower model snowshoes or last years models. I find that the prices are similar to what you would pay at costco for a no-name brand. You'd get the atlas brand name - not sure whether that makes a difference or not. Just a thought.. |

Okay, I've been searching Ebay. I'm just not sure what size I should get. I don't know Cali's exact weight, but he's somewhere between 90-95 I guess. So considering the pack and clothing weight he would carry, that means I should get him shoes for 80-150lb or 120-200? It seems that he will outgrow the 80-150lb pretty quick, but I'm wondering if the 120-200 will be too big? Measurement difference is four inches, if I'm reading the stats right. Is that a huge difference when you're 8 with short legs?

| Have you looked at small women's ones? I think that would be his best bet, they'll be shorter than regular ones, easier for him to walk in. I think aim for about 130-150 lbs. By the time he weighs more, he will be taller and need longer snowshoes. |

Trailflower, Yes, I'm looking at Women's Tubb's 21 or 25. I think the 25's will last longer. I just want to make sure that they won't be too big for him right now. Kind of like when I bought his raingear. Big for him now so he'll grow into it, but not so big that he can't wear it comfortably now!
