After two months of organzation and getting a team of seven together for this trip, everyone decided to bait out of this trip for some reason or another. I was not really impressed with the "All Talk and No Go" model of this team. So I decided to do it solo for a number of reason.
First off, it was not my choice by design but if everyone wimps out then what can you do. Second, I find it in a strange way exciting and fun to try it solo. Mind you, I would not advocate anyone to do it solo because of the toughest of this trail. However I am sure I will meet someone on the trail to hike with. Third, the long range weather forecast is calling for sun. Last, I am going to enjoy it by going slow and taking more photos compare to my last two WCT trips.
I am leaving tomorrow afternoon and be back with a report once I have finished it. I am planning to do it in seven days. Kind of a nice way to close out a crazy backpacking year for me.=)
Happy Hiking Everyone!!!

Good luck Explorer. I envy you, I had this week planned off and canceled 2 weeks ago cause the weather seemed to have turned. On a happy note , while up in Robson I met a very cute girl from Switzerland that had just done the W.C.T. solo. Maybe one of her friends will be there doing it at the same time.

Hiker- Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I was not too sure about the weather myself for this week. I had two plans if it rained then I was going to Portland and if it was looking good then WCT.
I guess that is how the dice rolls sometime. For example, you guys had awesome weather in the Chilkoot. I was under rain, fog and cold temperature for the first three days.Kind of fun in a sick way!!!
If I meet one of her friend on the trail that will make my week. . If not then then I will end up enjoying it anyway. On a side note did you get her number .

Naw she was waaay too young for me. I tried to explain to Trillium & Trailflower I was just trying to set up Moosehead & Martin , but I don't think they bought it. They just kept shaking heads and laughing. Then this sweet young thing goes and gets her friend from the Czech Republic. Black hair and deep blue eyes.... sigh ! I decided to go for a walk. Here endth the story Doomed to hike alone ... sigh !

Hey good luck and have a great trip, Explorer!
Up to this year 95% of all my trips, hiking and canoeing were all solo. This will be a great experience for you - you will come out of it feeling like a new person, because for the entire effort your will have relied only on yourself for every little detail. Gettin water, setting and breaking camp, making your dinner, figuring out how to get around that nasty bit of trail that collapsed.
Good on you, I envy you. Looking forward to your report when you get back!

I am back from the West Coast Trail. Great weather with lots of wildlife. Not too many hikers but enough to enjoy nature at its best. I recall the traffic it can generate during the summer time. You can run into someone every km.
Thank you for all your support. Too bad you guys were not there. Report coming up. |
