I have climbed Monitor Ridge and hiked some of the Loowit the first week of October.

I'd be willing to bet there is more water there this year than last at this time of year. It was really really dry when we were there.

We went in July and it was VERY hot. Water was good in 4 places but as the smallish glaciers melt through the summer, there is little left except for maybe the toutle which was the largest water source and the Loowit Falls on the north and eat side. Anyways you look at it, load up at each source and drink lots when you can. the map showed water sources that just werent there in some cases. Some of the water was warm and silty at others.

If the weather keep up the way it has, the only problem you'll have with water is that there is too danged much of it! That's what I found on my trip.

The trail is mostly obvious with a few sections not so clear, the lahars are easily washed out and you cross a few dozen of thos. The map you want is Loowit Trail # 216 from www.greentrailsmaps.com.

Its a great hike, lots of great scenery. Not terribly busy either.
