| Are you aware that sluicing requires a license and is illegal in many local river systems? It's a fish habitat issue. Panning is ok just about anywhere. Anyway, depending on the regulations I might be interested in joining you. |

Magnetite if its a fish habitat thing (Siltation of the stream) Then why are we not aloud to sluice on the Fraser?

| Jared, you would have to ask someone from DFO to get the best answer regarding the Fraser. Siltation is not necessarily the only issue. It's more an issue regarding the scale of the operation when comparing sluicing to gold panning. The Fraser is a very muddy/silty river but many fish utilize the gravel bars and the mouths of smaller tributaries for spawning. The silt contribution is negligable on the grand scale of the Fraser but sluicing just ends up processing more of the river bed than panning does and it results in the destruction of more fish eggs. Every stream is different but the more important a stream is for fish habitat the less likely you will be permitted to operate a sluice box. |
