Just IMHO.
I'm seeing quite a bit of outright personal bashing in conservation threads. I agree conservation is an imporant issue and that it needs a voice. Consider the message you send when you insult people. I guarantee that they will stop listening. At that point are you furthering your cause or padding your ego? (Which of the two is the more important to you?)
The sad thing is when people are turned off by insults they not only start ignoring you but the issues you brought to the table. It's human nature to connect an emotion to a memory. If the emotion is an unpleasant one, you may have just done more damage to your cause than good regardless of whether or not you actually have a point worth considering.
Thats all I have to say on the issue. Not really hiking related, just a little social tip that I felt like sharing based on my observation of the recent threads.
If anyone out there would like to discuss this with me further please feel free to do so personally via email.

I am so glad someone said something! The exact same thought occured to me when I was reading some of the threads in this forum. This site is such a great resource that it is horrible to see it deteriorate to bickering, even if we do feel passionately about the issues. I haven't even bothered to respond to some of the threads that I would like to respond to as they don't seem like real discussions.
Let's try and keep postings clean and to the topic. If you disagree with someone, lay out your argument but don't insult them!
Thanks for bringing up this important issue.
