As much as I really love my Redfeather BlackHawks , they just don't cut it in deep powder, especially when I'm carrying a full pack. They are lightweight and very manueverable though.

So I just bought a pair of Redfeather Backountry 36" shoes.

Now my dilema...Do I keep the Blackhawks for dayhikes and trips on packed trails or dense snow or should I just sell them?

See you on the mountain!

Keep them. I snowshoed up to Dam today. Your new ones would have been to cumbersome for the conditions. It was a glorious day up there today.

Hey, DR:

It must have been beautiful. And the solstice, too. I haven't been out yet this season.

How much snow? How wet?

I've never done Grouse, I almost always do the Cypress area.

What snowshoes do you use? I have a beater pair of Atlas 1022 which are excellent most days.

Regards,

Steve.

Hi, Steve. Yes, it was beautiful. Sunny, warm, no wind. It wasn't overly wet, and there was enough for snowshoeing or hiking. Someone even hiked up with a snowboard and rode down. The only lift open was Paradise. ( The beginners run) Normally in Winter you can't see the pipeline , but the snow was a few feet below the pipe in several places, and still a few exposed rocks.
If you go to Grouse, you walk to the bottom of the peak run and turn left. From there you can hike to Dam and out to Thunderbird Ridge and back.

I have a pair of Powder Wings snowshoes.

I finally got my new snowshoes today. I like them and they sure will do the trick when I'm carrying a heavy load. I think I might keep the old ones around after all because they still have their use as well. The smaller ones a better for climbing and for the local trails on daytrips. Everyone, including my wife, have basically convinced me to keep em.

See you on the mountain!
