Noisy ecotourists may boost bear numbers Anna Gosline, Exclusive from New Scientist, 18 August 04
The presence of noisy ecotourists may unexpectedly benefit brown bears in the wild. Though the tourists scare big male bears away from prime feeding zones, hungry mothers and cubs are not deterred and seize the opportunity to eat free from the threat of infanticide, helping to boost the population. http://www.bearsmart.com/breakingNews/ |

interesting link, i've seen those pictures before...mass email, but there's always been something about them that whispers 'hoax'. i've seen some pics where it says that bear was over 2000 pounds, some, like this one, say 1600? 1600 pounds is the size of a large polar bear, but i've never seen any pictures of a polar bear with a head that huge. i guess i would believe it if the alaskan government actually stuffed it and put it on display, but every reference i've seen to this bear have been questionable. and one more thing drifter....good god, that is a freaky picture on your profile!!!

Good call Dru. i had a feeling that the site i posted may have been a little too wild to be true.

That is a picture of me when i first landed on earth in my circus tent spaceship ... before my operation and namechange. I used to spin people up in cotton candy cocoons and feed off their corpses. I'm much better now.

good link, i love snopes.com, i never even thought to check it for this. i'm happy that the picture of the bear's 'last meal' had nothing to do with a bear at all. it just reenforces the stereotype as bears being violent, brutal animals. that bear is absolutely huge though!
