OK...

We met at 5pm, and in a few mins, were at the trail head, at the South end of Nixon Road...

It had been raining, but by now there were shafts of sunlight busting through the gaps in the clouds...

Through the gate onto property owned by a Buddhist Monastery... long wet grass with 20-30ft Alder forest above... and a small pond to the West...

Almost immediately, we spotted our first Bear dump... old, but present nonetheless...

There were animal *paths* through the grass... deer, bear, coyotes and *Cougars*... ;o)

Then there was a little toad (BH told us this little guy was an endangered one, right BH?)... a ton of slugs and views of the Fraser Valley out to Harrison Lake to the North...

After a 100m of elevation, we entered the forest... first thing was a painted tree sign *GO AWAY* it said... we’re guessing, scribed by a Lumberjack pissed off at the protesters that were one there...

As we started down towards Elk Creek (we could hear the Falls to the South as we progressed), we entered the *cut zone*... It wasn’t as bad as I has expected... sure, trees 4ft diameter and up, were taken... but there was still a Dark Forest remaining... sure there was brush and scrub littering the Forest Floor... but already the Ferns, Nettles, Deevil's Club and other fauna had grown through...

Personally, I don’t have a problem with logging... this is private land, and as a landowner, the guy can do whatever he wants with it... the canopy was opened up, and the light was able to assist the regrowth... there were still HUGE trees left behind... some with lightning strikes, some without...

We tripped and cursed (‘least I did) our way through the brush, losing the trail more than once... the bare legged members of the group had stings, slivers, cuts and bruises to show for it !!!...

We could see the Heli staging area, and got ever closer to the Creek... we entered another clearing, and down a muddy slope, and there at the bottom, a fresh BEAR FOOTPRINT in the mud !!! Yikes !!!... Bruin was close by... ;o(

We got to the Creek, no problem... beautiful clear water, cascading through the rocks and trees... Terry started up the other side, but by now it was almost 7pm... I think there were only 2 flashlights between the 6 of us, and not wanting to stumble back in the dark, we decided to turn around and head back to lick our wounds...

Time for beer and wine and pizza !!!

All in all (there I used that stupid saying again)... a great bunch o’ guys... nice to meet 3 *newbies*... hopefully they’re not too put off by this rugged ramble in the Forest !!!

Lots of pics were taken, and I know they will be posted soon...

I only took 2...

Beer and wine Pizza (on the Living Room Floor)...

...

...and the Cougars in the Hot Tub...

...

C'Jack...(Thanks for putting the hike together, Trill)...

(I just found a few shots that I took last year...)

What a great night out! Good company and shall we say an interesting, rugged trail? It was alot of fun and thanks C'Jack for leading the way on this one.

Six CT'rs took part tonight . . .

Chilliwack Jack, Smiley, Broken Head, Eric ranger and TerryS were my hiking companions tonight. First CT hike for Eric and Terry - welcome guys and hope to see you on the trails again.

I'll try to add a few more pictures tomorrow but it's past this girls' bedtime. Goodnight!

Oh and C'Jack thanks again for the use of the hot tub - my scratched and nettle stung legs thank you.

Once again, my apologies for not making it. I would have been interested in checking out the logging show for sure. Lately, work has been getting in the way of my hiking schedule, need to win that lottery thingy.

Ok, finally home from work

Here's the rest of my pics.

Getting acquainted at the rendezvous place.

Hey, where's the 'nut?? You mean I'll have to drink this beer I brought for him?

Heading out on the trail

C'Jack leading the charge

Lots of prickly thistles along the way but they ain't nothin' compared to rubbing too close to stinging nettle

Hello. . . Tom the toad??

That's as close as I could get; tried to give him a kiss to see if he would turn into a handsome prince but the little devil got away.

Into the woods we go

Big old cedar. How come I always think of Mick when I take these types of shots?

Broken Head and Smiley admiring said tree.
[

Okay move on people, we have more ground to cover.

A bit of sunshine in the grass

Hello Elk Creek!

Umm, Fiddlehead ferns Broken Head??

A wee bit of a view on the way home.

Thanks everyone - it was a very good night!

Trill & Chill??? What's that - a new rock group?

Stay tuned Terry. If all goes well, I hope to get out again next Wednesday evening - Hayward Lake sounds like a good plan. I'll let you know.
