Just a little something I was wondering about concerning people who have more than one username on Club Tread. I know they exist; as my nosey ex is currently up to around 4 usernames...but what's the point of having multiple C.T. personalities? Do some people carry on conversations with themselves on threads? I'm not sure if it's a problem or not here, and I know that LongShadow or Jimbo can uncover such anomalies, but it would be interesting to know if this is a common thing within the C.T. community.

just a note, schitzophrenia & multiple personalities are not one & the same. hikers with voices in their head on the other head would fit the bill.

Good note tribal, few people living with schizophrenia are also afflicted with multiple personalities; it's a misconsception of our society.

It shows a basic dishonesty, and I don't think it should be allowed.Hey,I think I know- one user name and seven different personalities works for me |

Should be easy enough to find out. Just need to look at the IP address no?!?
Yes that sounds like a good idea. Oh really? Yeah, if someone is posting under different names using the same IP adress then it's possible that they are the same person. Maybe it's not so easy as you think. What about if two people are sharing a computer. I know of at least two people on CT that do share computers depending on who's house they are at. Oh. I didn't really think about that one. I guess you may be right. I think I am, it's not so easy to spot the multiple personality disordered people as you might think it is. Would the both of you just shut up!!!
Who's up for a hike this weekend?I am. I am. I am.I am.I am. I am.
(I hope this post gets me out of setting up and leading the Skyline2 hike this summer. I don't know if I really want to take on that responsibility after seeing what goes into organizing these outings.) |

| Hey, Billygoat, I think you may be right. I sometimes have wondered about the suddenness of new people all participating at the same time. The name may change, but the style does not. |

Use of multiple ID's on other forums is considered very bad form. Sometimes they are used in good fun, sometimes to troll, and sometimes they are used to make anonymous cheap shots. They cause people to question whether new posters are the real deal. The suspicions can really be detractors to discussions with threads dissolving into accusations of false IDs. I have seen whole hiking forums ruined because of this.

Oh, man. This is probably one of the tamest boards I have participated in. I don't think I have ever seen anything nasty here. I am fairly new here (only one personality thankyouverymuch), and I am sure that there have been some crazy moments, but the number of people who know each other IRL pretty much stops most trolls from stirring up trouble here.
It's a nice, safe, place. I like it.

Good lord... I can barely remember my phone numbers let alone keep track of multiple personalities! One screen name will do me just fine thanks. And any of you who are using multiple ones can safely assume that I am not clever enough to notice that they are all the same person.

Inquiring minds want to know.... So besides your ex, who triggered this little inquiry?
BTW, IP addresses aren't always an effective means of determining if things are the same as alot of accounts use dynamic IPs and or proxies. |

Very interesting.... so that's where the voices come from, and ... oops, maybe I shouldn't say too much.
I'll admit to talking to myself. But, ya know, I enjoy a good conversation.
The multiple personalities/user names thing: do ppl really not have better things to do with their time? It's hard enough to keep track of things as it is, never mind creating and maintaining lies and hassles. Life is complicated, why make it worse?

Interesting... very
I remember a smokey the bear from last year too
and yeah.... why hide under a different name? I somehow doubt its for having a conversation with oneself on the site, thatd be kinda silly...
I do talk to 'myself' a lot, and then 'she' has to butt in.. but dont wake 'her' up... as her is cranky and she would fight |

Well, the gig is up. I've got 47 different user names here on CT:
One replies to event sign ups saying I can't go. One says I'm going to go and then I don't show up. One is myself. The other 44 I just created to be thread readers. |

Seems pretty benign as far as I can tell so far...??? Just imagine somebody posting and then actually waiting an hour or so before posting under the other identity, in order to throw off suspicion. Makes me laugh. Adds humour and lightens up the discussions, anyway. And dieselthecat is classic!
