Where are you taking me today, Katie? : )
She'll use anything to gain some height. : )
A little bubble action on a wet road. : )
Purrty! : )
I think I actually made an alder tunnel look pleasant. : )
More purrty pictures. : )
Snow conditions on top of the ridge. Not much. I wore my runners and the feet stayed dry.
Final stretch to...
...the fake summit.
We tried to find a way down to this true summit and make it somewhat of a loop back to the car, but didn't have any luck. : (

Some boogey-man patrol shots on the way back. Chilled down quickly while having lunch and my hands took forever to warm up while descending. Even had to do some running to speed up the process.
Katie says she is nice and warm. : )
I haven't caught many action shots of the girl lately, so here you go. She had already made it up before I was able to get the camera out and set, so I called her down. : )
This time I caught her going up too. : )
She says it's my turn now. : )
More patrolling. : )
Katie bad girl! I stay silent and give her the evil eye as she approaches. : )
Hey, no one is perfect, Katie. : )

A short video of her nose in action. : )

Looks awesome! I also have a beagle that loves to climb mountains. Next time you are coming to Chilliwack River valley for a hike - drop me an e-mail. Im sure the Beagles would love to get together.

With her sniffing the branches up high and not being terribly excited, I would say, without doubt, that it was bear. Totally different body language from predator to prey tracks.
Thanks everyone. : ) |

Now that I have thought about it more, I take the "...without doubt..." part back. Her hackles weren't up, which they usually are with fresh predator tracks. Probably bear though, as she was a bit skittish in the video. Fresh rabbit, raccoon and deer tracks get her whimpering and whining in excitement. With coyote, big cat and bear tracks just getting a lot of nose action and hackles.
Thanks Bob, it was a good hike. Katie was a threat to her leader's lunch...Sierra probably has nightmares over Katie. ; )
NQ, it's about time you responded to a Katie hike. Not a lot of 'dog people' on this site, so you are our 'bread and butter'. I always consider 75% of the hits our TR's get are probably from you. : ) Katie is sucking up big time in that last photo. : )
Thanks again, everyone. : ) |

Me too. I am going crazy. Maybe I should get in a wet suit and snorkel and head up Hollyburn or something.
Re everyone favorite dog -- I love these reports too. Whenever I see "John and Katie", I jump a bit -- "what has Katie been up to now"
PS Cold snap is coming end of next week; they even predict snow on water level. Don't even ask whats going to happen in the prairies |
