There are a fair share of Mt. Bishop trip reports the latest by Zeljkok is pretty detailed http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=51690&SearchTerms=bishop so that means I can keep this nice and short.

Once again thanks to all the people that have helped clear the trail, it's kind of like the center creek road. Once some people put some hard work in and the word gets out people will start using it more and getting to these less visited peaks. Dblair, Stacey and I took advantage of this mid week weather and set off for Mt. Bishop bike n hike on a nicely trimmed but HEAVILY FLAGGED TRAIL :(. We started our hike at 9:40am with the LSCR gate locking at 8pm now we were on abit of a time schedule. That was my fault because a previous night of drinking at Stacey's graduation party had me not wanting to get up too early.

The new bridge also makes this hike more enjoyable as well and when you hit this spur 4 sign, you drop down the hill to the far "SLOW" sign which is where the trailhead is.

Steep trail with rope after rope after rope, did I mention ropes yet, oh ya and a few more ropes then finally you bust out to the upper lake where pictures can finally be taken. Mt. Bishop in the back background.

After Vicar Lakes more steepness, but views are opening up into the alpine and we get a look at the middle peak of Mt. Bishop or as Bivouac and Google Earth have labelled "Deacon Peak" We decided to head for that one as we were making good time.

In the gap between the two peaks we ran into two guys coming back from the middle peak. Dblair chatted to them for abit, as they had come via Elsay Lake way and weren't aware of the other trail. From that point it was just pick a way up some ledges, ramps, rocks and we were having lunch ontop of the middle peak.

The actual peak to the South is higher so after lunch we started to make our way back the way we came and from here Dblair who has already been there before didn't bother going back up, and Stacey who doesn't do alot of hiking knew we would be rushed for time on the 8pm gate lock so they started to head down while I quickly scooted upto Mt. Bishop.

Pretty straight forward, pick a line and head to the top, check out the views, snap a photo and try to catch up to the others.

Where all 3 of us were earlier

The downhill portion of this trip will consist of bum, rope, bum, rope, steep, bum , rope. No seriously these all all different ropes and probably coulda been a ton more rope photos.

Big Woody

Stacey prefers Elk Mtn type trips and hates when I lie and say things will level out and it won't be steep. This trip was pretty rough and she did an awesome job for someone who doesn't do alot of hiking, plus she killed it on the long bike ride back to the car. Being the nice guy that I am, I was the lucky one that got to ride the piece of shit, rusted chain, seat that rotates while riding, 60 dollar Craigslist TANK of a bike.

End of day shot, all smiles, what a great bike and hike trip and we made it to the gate with 4 minutes to 8:00pm

P.S. Too many flags on this trail, I realize North Shore Search and Rescue are calling this an "escape trail" or something like that but it could be toned down abit.

I really like the pic with the giant cedars. Cool !

I can relate to the bike part; had a $5 purchased bike on a garage sale; hit a root stub on a hike/bike trail once. The seat flew up by making a 90' turn up, ouch ! my butt. Pushed it down, but always sprang up with every little bump on the way home.

Yep, lots of ropes allright!
Almost headed up there that day but opted instead for the excitement of stair running and house painting-what was I thinking?

It was a very different hike in winter. We'll see how the new bridge and ropes play out this year.
BTW: I lost a pair of MEC sunglasses when clearing the upper trail a few weeks back (lost on the lower part of the trail).

This time of year is perfect with everything being dry.

When I did it in early July the rocky rope parts were wet and not so fun. Also the area around the ponds were very spongy and impossible not to get wet feet.

Additionally I liked all the flagging

Right on! 1 year to the day from when I was up there. I still have to go back to get up Deacon. It certainly is a nice hike!

A way to avoid gate closing time at the parking lot is to park at the top of Lynn Valley road and take the footbridge across. Adds 5-10 mins.
