Parker Ridge

When we got to the parking lot at around 8am there was only one other car there. The first part was steep and we got to the ridge in about 45 mins. Noticed a trail to the right of the saddle that went steeply up, with a couple of patches of snow that was easily avoided.. we followed this one. On route we came across mountain goat and further up we came across Big Horn sheep! They were awesome to see up close in their habitat. Was a bit concerned when they stood up and stared at us as we passed by.

We had lunch higher up and Shawn scrambled up a nearby peak while I waited below. From our lunch spot we could see/hear a thunderstorm to the North across the highway - exactly where we were planning to hike next. We passed the sheep and goats again on the way down as well as about 50 tourists struggling up the trail. By the time we got back to the trailhead parking lot it was completely full - around 30 cars.

Wilcox Pass

It appeared that the storm had passed so we headed a short distance up the highway to the Wilcox Pass trailhead. Towards the end of the trail another thunder/lightning storm had moved in. We were in a massive flat meadow, the storm was right above us and we were the highest thing around. It started hailing and visibility was poor so we decided to turn around along with bunch of other hikers. The thunder, lightning and hail made it a fun, memorable hike. The days hiking totals - 18 km over about 7 hours.

Parker Ridge is a nice hike and very popular too. It's always nice to encounter wildlife on a hike.
