Nice. Had you hiked up on the other side of the lake, you might have encountered these interesting features:

I figured the pictures told the story of the day. It was freaking awesome!
Lots of people heading up by the time I was heading down. A few mosquitos by the lake, but not bad. I imagine it would have been different at night. Almost went swimming, but didn't want to leave little squeeker unattended by the water. She loved it up there. Slept in the backpack carrier all the way down. Hiking is tiring, you know. |

Very nice indeed.
A pretty destination like always.

Nice shots! The last time I hiked to these lakes was 35 years ago, with two other 20 year old buddies. My latest trip was this past week. The lakes remain as stunning as they ever were. The glacier has melted back a lot since then and now, to my amazement, there is a trail, with signs and everything!
On that last trip, so many years ago, we were alone, I don't even recall if we hiked a real trail, I think we bushwhacked our way up there. This time on our way up there we assisted two elderly German tourists, clearly struggling badly in their city shoes and casual wear. We also gave an energy bar to a very out-of-shape older lady at middle lake who was having a great struggle recovering from her ordeal up the hill.
We saw others do their bit by packing out two green plastic bags of dog crap, left at the trail side by doorknobs who just can't do without their adoring, four-legged companions on such a heavily used provincial park trail. Glad we had a first aid kit to patch up a small girls knee, tripped up by some free-roaming mutt at the scree slope.
Yeah, times have changed. It was more adventurous all those years ago but I'm glad to see the area is appreciated by so many. Maybe it's time for Parks BC to recognize this, upgrade the trail to a smoother path and enforce a sensible no-dogs policy. |

I was thinking about people's outdoor wear as I sweated my ass off on the hike. This trail must be so easy since all the people in flip flops, and carrying no packs clearly don't need any gear. I must be silly for carrying a first aid kit, water, headlamp, and a light extra layer...all in addition to the toddler I might add...sigh.
The following day, on the Chief, I got a welcome reprieve from carrying the 40+lbs on my back, and got to stop to tape up someone's sprained ankle. Ah, how I reminisce of the days of light packs and fast hiking. |

well, packing a toddler up across that scree slope is no small feat! well done.
Joffre is so beautiful. As much as I'd prefer it to be less accessible, it's important to have areas that almost everyone can get to. Perhaps Joffre should be one of those places, I dunno. If so, the access and park facilities need to be more in keeping with the general tourist traffic. If not, perhaps there needs to be more vigorous alerts, or warnings that the trail is in fact strenuous and requires fitness, good footwear etc.
