I feel this belongs in the Alberta forum, but Yoho NP is in BC...

The trail to Niles meadow shares the same trailhead as popular Sherbrooke Lake and is very well maintained to the lake. After that it deteriorates slightly with fallen trees, mud, and roots, but is still easy to follow and in good shape for a mountain trail. There are many waterfalls and cascades along the way too, so lots of water music. It is described further with lots of photos on my website: http://mattclay.zenfolio.com/niles_meadow

The real reason for writing this trip report is to emphasize the options near the end of the trail that most people miss. Most seem to stop at what some call Niles amphitheatre, a very nice spot below Mt. Niles. The area many call the meadows is at the base of Mt. Niles and from this point looks difficult (energy-wise) to reach. It's shockingly easy, however, and I've got a photo on my site of the cairn some miss. We braced ourselves for a long ascent, but after what seemed like just 10 minutes we were halfway up, and we're not fast hikers. We lunched here, and then continued to the col west of Mt. Niles. This is the part that must be done! It's only 200 m higher and 1.2 km further, but reaching the col allows you to view other hikes in Yoho - the famous Iceline and Whaleback trails - and the source of Takkakaw falls (Daly Glacier) from above. The photo's simply do not do it justice.
This is the view that awaits you upon reaching the col.

Yeah, going up to that col is beautiful and going up Mt. Niles wasn't that much extra effort either. We went up Mt. Niles last year (http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=40699) and it was one of my favorite trips.

Some people camp at Niles Meadows, then do Mt. Niles on Day 1 and Mt. Daly on Day 2, then hike out. Meadows are only ~ 2 1/2 hr from trailhead, so you don't have to carry heavy pack for too long. Several years ago I did Niles as day trip from Calgary, but regretted not taking overnight gear with me

Yep - highly recommended although technically you probably need a permit to camp there and I don't think you'll get one, so don't say I didn't warn! http://www.explor8ion.com/vern/scrambles/daly/daly.html
