We are looking for a hike approximately 8 hours long, elevation gain at least 1000 m (3280 ft), something with beautiful views. We would appreciate suggestions!!! :) Thanks!

Northern Washington is a big area. Can you be a little more specific on the area you are looking at? (ie: Baker, Mountain Loop Hwy, etc).

Cheers!

I was thinking the North Cascades region. Maybe nothing south of Baker? We're flexible though.

Yellow Aster Butte with a scramble up Tomyhoi added on if you want to amp it up a bit.

The Hannegan Pass Trail is another excellent choice. You have the option of climbing Ruth Mountain (some mellow glacier travel) or Hannegan Peak, both of which are walk ups. Amazing views!

There are plenty of excellent trails, with fantastic scramble options along Hwy 20 in the area around Rainy and Washington Passes, if you don't mind a bit of a drive.

I'm not sure how long it would take you to do this because there are several possible combinations for a day....but you could do Cascade Pass and then from the pass hike up to the Sahale Glacier..totally stunning at over 7000 feet. Then, you can also hike back down a zillion feet to Doubtful Lake ( you will see it from the trail to Sahale Glacier). You can also continue on from the pass towards Stehekin and cut in at a junction towards Horseshoe Basin.

This is an amazing area..and once you move on from the pass, you should encounter very few people. Most seem to stop at the pass for a day hike.

There is still a lot of snow around Baker so you need to be prepared for possibly travelling on snow as well as higher than normal water crossings. A couple of my favorite hikes around Baker are Heliotrope Ridge or Railroad Grade. You will find trip reports on both here on CT.

A good place to check current conditions is here:

The Washington Trails Association is also another good resource for Washington trail information:

To give you an idea of how much snow is still at Baker check this picture out. It was taken July 24th:

Do this one, it will blow your mind. It is one of the most scenic hikes I have ever done. I will post some pictures of it shortly.

If I had to pick one hike right now it would be Skyline Divide on Mt. Baker

http://members.shaw.ca/karenanddavid/mt%20Baker.htm

It takes about 2 hours to get to most trailheads on Baker, North Cascades hikes (Cascade Pass, Hidden Lake Lookout) are at least three hours away - http://members.shaw.ca/karenanddavid/NorthCascades.html br /
FWIW the hikes along Mountain Loop are in the 2-3 hour range as well: http://members.shaw.ca/karenanddavid/glacier_peak_wilderness.htm

I'll have to agree with Pete - the trail up to Hidden Lake is stunning in the late summer and fall.
And a good workout to boot...
