Most of the snow has melted! I was up to Crown via Dam 3 weeks ago and everything up there was covered in snow, starting at the service road/hiker register.
I was up again two days ago and you don't hit snow until past Dam mountain, and then only in the trees. There's still a bit between Dam and Goat, but nothing requiring slowshoes/mini crampons, or even gaitors really. You'll be fine just with decent shoes. Once on top of Goat there shouldn't be any snow. There is quite a bit of mud and water on the lower meadows before Dam, just requires some careful stepping.. our feet were dry all day.
For those interested in Crown mountain the snow is 90% melted up there too, only a couple patches in the woods. Trail is great and very good scrambling on the ridges below, slabs below the Camel, and all the rock at the top is dry and ready to climb.
I'm looking to climb some of the routes on the Camel/Widowmaker ArĂȘte if anyone's interested in a climbing partner. I have sport gear, sadly no trad gear.
Anyone know who's ashes are "spread" at the top of Crown? I say spread because they are more just sorta dumped in piles. I assumed (hoped) they were not human remains at first but noticed a "medical specimen" metal tag in one of the piles right on the trail. Interesting!

That's pretty disrespectful to everyone else. If you're going to ask for your remaining carbon to be dumped in the mountains, do it somewhere discreet. :(

I agree! Accidentally walked on someones ashes on Mt Cheam yesterday. Don't dump them over the side or anything, not to mention, I'm sure the person is glad to have people trampling their remains... I Saw 4 very visible ash piles (which I avoided) dumped up there as well as a plaque slapped right, first thing you see upon reaching the summit. Really adds to the experience. |

| If it wasn't the Friday before a sunny long weekend, I'd bet that this could turn into a bit of a debate... |
