I was returning from a dayhiking roadtrip in northern Washington (TR's to come soon) and also had a plan to hike to the first Brother in Manning today. I got to the upper parking lot for the Heather Trail last night just before sunset and slept overnight in the parking lot for a decent start on the following day (today).
A few shots near the trailhead as the sun was going down. Quite a few Western Anenome out in seed stage now:

A nice clear night followed by a chilly but bright sunny morning Time to head off towards the First Brother! Plenty of wildflowers about right now with Lupines and Paintbrush out in decent numbers, especially once you pass the Bonnevier Trail JCT.

As for the bugs, they were the worst around Buckhorn Camp, but other than that they weren't much of an issue. The trail is in great shape to the First Brother. Only a few smaller patches of snow that needed to be crossed just before the First Brother JCT.
Now is definitely the time to go for wildflowers.

Very nice. I might brave the holiday crowds and head out there next weekend.

Haha just did a trip through the Rockies and saw tons of these. We didn't know what they were called but we called them "Dr. Suess Plants".
