Hi folks - some friends and I are planning on hiking in Manning the weekend of Aug 17-19. Does anyone have a good handle on whether the wildflowers will be peaking around then? I'm wondering in particular because this year's heavy snowpack may have delayed them. Also, what are some good day hiking options? My wife will be 7 months pregnant at that point, so we won't be doing anything too strenuous. Something away from the hordes of tourists would be nice. Any suggestions are welcome!
Cheers, Dan

No experience in there yet this year, but I did Outram last year August 28th and that seemed to be the peak of the wildflowers... from what I can tell around here the snowpack this year was roughly what it was this year, but the melt has been quicker. Not sure if the same in Manning, but you might have a good shot at it.

I have no experience out this way, but I wonder if the Three Brothers area (not necessarily all that way though) would be good for you, since you can drive up so high.

The heather trail is blooming pretty dramatically as we speak, especially past the first brother on the way to Nicomen. It's gorgeous. Just hiked it today. There were snow patches on the trail, but the meadows look like they've been clear for a while. I have no clue about any other trails though. My guess is that Skyline II might be getting some bloomage pretty soon.

I was just on the Heather Trail Friday. You can go with light hikers and leave the snow gear at home. The flowers are just beginning to put on a show

As an aside, this was my first time on this trail, and I can't say enough about it. One of the best hikes in BC, and you start at over 1950m! 103 Hikes is a little off on the elevation gain, as the point to point from the TH to First Brother is only 320m, but the cumulative is more like 900m altogether. I always avoided it because I heard it could get crowded, however on a weekday it isn't too populated and for the neophyte it is almost impossible to get lost on if you hike on a clear, snow free day. If you haven't hiked it yet, go do it now!

Bugs were very mild as far as Second Brother and I heard Kicking Horse Camp had few bugs as well
