Ever since I saw Chinook Peak from Sentry Mountain, I wanted to ascend one of the peaks in the northern part of the Flathead range. My opportunity came on July long weekend. We took a trail to Dakota Crash Site - where a military plane had collided with Mt. Ptolemy and then plummeted into the valley below. Great hiking destination in itself. From there we took the NW slope to Mt. Coulthard. The snow was really helpful on the way up. I wasn`t sure which of the three summits was the highest, so I decided to go for the middle one first. It turned out to be a few meters lower than the east peak. The view from this summit was terrific, so I strongly recommend you visit both peaks. The east peak (true summit) was only 17 minutes away. I was really impressed with this area. I`ll be back for sure!

I totally agree, Sandy. It`s a must-do for Eric! He should do this peak on his birthday.

That is a beautiful spot, I could walk there for days and never tire of it.

I will definitely have to go up this peak. If I did it on my birthday, I would need snowshoes. Maybe I should take my wife up there. As long as it isn't too onerous she should probably be able to do it.

Hahahah. Go grab Mount Coulthard, Mount Erickson, and Allison Peak in one shot!!!

I definitely need to do Mount Stephen as well, but not on my birthday though (Jan. 2nd). that would be too dangerous :)
