My intention was to hike the Skyline trail from Strawberry Flats to the ridge. Turned out to be a rather overcast/ rainy day today in Manning. The Skyline trail is snowfree until close to km4 (1650m) and BAM! there's a few feet of snow.

Makes for a kind of hard to follow trail and I didn't feel like GPSing it up to the ridge on an overcast day, so I turned around at this point. Gonna be a couple more weeks still until this trail is somewhat clear.
Back at the car feeling a bit short-changed for hiking, I first set out to take some wildflower shots around the parking lot, of which there are getting to be quite a few:

I figured since I was here I might as well at least hike the Poland Lake trail to the top of the orange chair, albeit in the rain.
First views across the valley at a lovely little spot:

Hey I'm a lift operator!

Mosquitos BTW were pretty bad, so be sure to bring plenty of bug repellant if you go anytime soon.

Funny, I was on Skyline on Friday, and turned around at the same spot as you. Still so much snow! Plus: thunderstorms all Friday night, into the wee hours on Saturday.

I ended up going up Windy Joe on Saturday in the rain, but the views were great regardless. And yes, the bugs were absolutely atrocious.

Tim.

Know that short changed feeling well. Darn thunderstorms cut a trip short, just like for us in the Paleface Creek Basin.

Many thanks for your conditions report, fingers still crossed for Illal next weekend.
