seeking a highly recommended book (or books) that have great hiking/walking
in bc...esp around the lower mainland (i live in vancouver)
...i know that there are quite a few books out there,
but any that stand out better than others perhaps?

...i'm not into really long walks/hikes beyond 3-5 hrs at this point
(at least not just yet...i am age 50, trying
to lose 40 lbs and get my health back, despite doing
weights, walking, skiing, cycling etc....being in prime ski condition for next season
is my motivator (get out 30-50x/yr)

i often hike lynn valley trails/seymore or in n.shore,
...but need some versatility.

even some good hiking groups for people of my age/ability would be appreciated too
(would be nice to make some new activity buddies).

many thanks for any suggestions
cheers

101 Walks
103 Hikes

but the best in the lot is still
Best Hikes and Walks of SW BC by Dawn Hanna. Her directions are clear, the hikes are sorted in an index by difficulty and by season - and she also includes some natural history and general history notes in many of her hike descriptions.

Agreed, great book. I carry it with me when I go on any hike. The directions are clear, like Seawallrunner said. There's hike in the Lower Mainland, Whistler, and Manning, so there's good versatility.

its 109 walks BTW not 101. A good book for the starting hiker, some of the ones in 103 you are going to find a bit long at this stage.

the don't waste your time series of books give strong opinions on which hikes are great, poor, rotten, etc. I find them very useful especially when exploring a new region.
